College football roundup: Oregon defensive coordinator Aliotti to retire

Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti will retire after Monday's Alamo Bowl game against Texas, the university announced Friday on its official Twitter account.

Aliotti, 59, has been a coach for 38 years and spent 21 seasons on the Oregon staff over three different stints.

He worked under four different Oregon head coaches: Rich Brooks, Mike Bellotti, Chip Kelly and Mark Helfrich.

This season, Oregon ranked 25th in the nation in scoring defense 14th in pass defense.

In 2012, the Ducks led the country in turnovers forced, with 40 takeaways.

--- Washington defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox is expected to be hired by Southern Cal to serve in the same capacity after Friday night's Fight Hunger Bowl, according to CBS Sports.

Wilcox is among several former Washington assistants joining new USC coach Steve Sarkisian, who recently left the Huskies to take over the Trojans' program.

---Cincinnati starting left guard Austen Bujnoch will not play in Saturday's Belk Bowl against North Carolina because of a foot injury.

Bujnoch recently had surgery to repair the injury. He missed three games this season.

Bujnoch started 32 straight games at right guard before the injury.

---A grandson of former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden was killed in a one-car accident Thursday morning in Winter Haven, Fla.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's office, passenger Taylor Jeffrey Bowden, 23, died when a vehicle driven by Rafael Fernandes De Aguiar Valim, 25, crashed into a water-filled ditch.

The victim's father was Jeff Bowden, an assistant coach at Akron under brother Terry Bowden. He is the son of Bobby Bowden.

He is the second grandson of Bowden's to die in an auto accident since 15-year-old Bowden Madden was killed in September 2004.

---Louisville coach Charlie Strong confirmed on that starting linebacker George Durant will not play in Saturday's Russell Athletics Bowl game against Miami.

Strong did not say why Durant will not participate in the game.

Durant was arrested on multiple traffic charges in mid-October, but he has played in games since then.
