CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Trent Weideman scored 16 points, including two late baskets, and College of Charleston hit last-minute free throws to hold off Chattanooga 71-68 Saturday night.

The Cougars (18-7, 10-3 Southern Conference), who led 36-35 at halftime, scored when it counted late against Chattanooga (9-15, 4-7). With Charleston leading 64-63, Weideman - who also had 10 rebounds - scored on a dunk, then a layup to make it 68-63. Ronrico White hit a 3-pointer, however, with 1:21 left to cut it to 68-66.

But two foul shots by Nori Johnson with 32 seconds remaining offset a Gee McGhee jumper for the Mocs. After an Andrew Lawrence free throw with 0:03 left made it 71-68, White missed a long 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Z. Mason led Chattanooga with 27 points. McGhee added 20 and Drazen Slovaric scored 15 points.

For the Cougars, Anthony Stitt and Lawrence scored 13 apiece and Anthony Thomas 10.
