Aaron Pettrey kicked 19-yard field goal as time expired as the Cleveland Gladiators handed the Rush their second straight loss in a 53-50 Arena Football League decision at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday night.
The Rush (4-4) rallied from a 36-27 deficit to tie the game at 50-50 with 1 minute, 15 seconds left. Quarterback Carson Coffman hit Jared Jenkins with a 15-yard touchdown pass and Reggie Gray scored on a two-point conversion run.
But Cleveland (2-5) quickly marched downfield to the Rush 4-yard line to set up Pettrey's winning field goal.
Gray caught three TD passes while J.J. Payne and Kelvin Morris each rushed for scores. Rush defender Joe Phinisee had a game-high 12 tackles.
Quarterbacks Danny Southwick and Carson Coffman combined for 236 passing yards and four touchdowns.
The Gladiators erased a deficit late in the opening half when quarterback Chris Dieker's 5-yard touchdown pass to Dominic Goodman and Pettrey's kick forced a 20-20 deadlock.
Rodney Wright replied with a 54-yard kickoff return with three seconds showing and Jose Martinez's kick gave the Rush a 27-20 halftime lead.
The teams meet again July 13 at Allstate Arena.
