Chris Buescher isn’t going back to Roush Fenway Racing anytime soon.

JTG Daugherty Racing announced Friday that Buescher had signed a multi-year extension with the team. Buescher moved to the team at the beginning of the 2017 season via a loan of sorts from Roush Fenway after spending 2016 with Front Row Motorsports.

Buescher joined the team as it expanded to two cars and Roush Fenway downsized. After the departure of Greg Biffle, Roush went from a three-car operation in 2016 to a two-car one this season. The move left no spot with the team for Buescher, who moved to JTG Daugherty.

JTG leased the charter that belonged to Biffle’s car in 2016 for Buescher’s entry in 2017. A charter guarantees a team an entry into every Cup Series race, though a team can only lease a charter for a season. JTG will need to either purchase the charter from Roush or get another charter via lease or purchase.

Buescher finished a season-best sixth at Michigan last week and is currently 25th in the points standings.

The 2015 Xfinity Series champion made NASCAR’s playoffs a year ago via a win at Pocono. Buescher stayed out on the track as lead teams pitted. When the rain-delayed race was called for dense fog, Buescher was in the lead.
