The Kansas City Chief announced Thursday that Brad Childress has joined the coaching staff as a senior offensive assistant.
Childress, 56, spent last season as the offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns after taking the entire 2011 season off from coaching. Prior to joining Cleveland, Childress was the head coach for the Minnesota Vikings for 4 1/2 seasons, leading the team to a pair of NFC Central titles.
He was fired by the Vikings midway through the 2010 season.
Childress rejoins head coach Andy Reid on the Cheifs coaching staff. From 1999 to 2005, Childress acted as Reid's quarterbacks coach (1999-2001) and offensive coordinator (2002-2005) for the Philadelphia Eagles. Reid was fired by the Eagles after the 2012 season and subsequently hired by the Chiefs.
