CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) Dontay Hampton made a layup with 1 second left and Chattanooga overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to beat Appalachian State 65-63 on Saturday night.
The Mocs (8-9, 2-2 Southern Conference) trailed 52-40 with 13:17 left in the second half after Appalachian State's Tab Hamilton hit a 3-pointer. But Chattanooga rallied and Keegan Bell's 3-pointer cut its deficit to two points with 2:02 remaining in the game.
Zaccheus Mason knocked down two free throws for the Mocs, tying the game at 63-all with 38 seconds to play. Appalachian State's Omar Carter missed a 3-pointer, and Hampton followed with the game-winning layup.
Ricky Taylor led Chattanooga with 19 points, and Drazen Zlovaric and Jahmal Burroughs each had 11 points. Hampton finished with six points and seven rebounds.
Hamilton scored 22 points for the Mountaineers (6-8, 2-2). Carter had 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the loss.
