Chase Elliott signs contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports through 2022
Chase Elliott isn’t leaving Hendrick Motorsports anytime soon.
Elliott has signed an extension with the team through the 2022 season. Hendrick said it was a four-year deal, meaning Elliott’s rookie contract was set to expire at the end of 2018.
“It means the world to me to be a part of this organization, and I couldn’t be happier (about the extension),” Elliott said in a statement. “I wouldn’t want to drive for anybody else but Hendrick Motorsports. I am very proud to be where I am, and I definitely take it upon myself to work hard and make sure I do my part for the company as we move forward.”
Elliott is in his second year driving the No. 24 for the team. He took over following Jeff Gordon’s retirement at the end of the 2015 season and made the playoffs in his rookie season. He’s likely to make the playoff field once again in 2017 as he’s sixth in the points standings through 16 races. In 57 career Cup Series starts he has 15 top-five finishes.
The extension for Elliott solidifies two seats at the four-car team through 2020. Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson announced a three-year contract extension through 2020 with the team earlier this month. Hendrick is searching for a replacement for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 car for 2018 and beyond after Junior’s impending retirement. Kasey Kahne, the driver of the No. 5, is currently signed with the team through the end of 2018.
