Chargers' Nick Novak knocks in four field goals in win

San Diego Chargers kicker Nick Novak came through in the clutch, booting four field goals in a win over the Indianapolis Colts.

That included a 50-yarder in the fourth quarter of a 19-9 home victory. He made one more field goal than Adam Vinatieri, who connected on three field goals.

“Every kicker wants to be known for being clutch,” Novak told San Diego reporters. “He exemplifies clutch. Going against a guy like Vinatieri, I tried to lift my game and match him kick-for-kick. He went 3-for-3 and I went 4-for-4, and I’m pretty happy. The most important thing is winning the game.”

For the season, Novak is 13 for 15 with two blocked. He finished 18 of 20 last season, signing a four-year contract.

“It meant a whole lot that they put their confidence in me by giving me that contract,” Novak said.. “I have a lot of confidence in my guys, and confidence in what I do. You’re only as good as your last kick, so I try to get out there and do the job.”
