Wide receiver Vincent Brown was placed on injured reserve by the Chargers with a broken ankle. He was injured in the preseason against the Dallas Cowboys and likely won't be cleared to return until late October, at the earliest.
But thanks to the NFL's new rule on injured reserve -- allowing one player with a "severe injury" to be activated from the reserve/injured list if they are designated for return at the time of the transaction -- Brown is expected to play again this season.
Brown can be activated after spending at least eight weeks on IR. If he's not healthy enough to play or suffers a setback, Brown does not have to be activated.
Brown was a third-round pick in 2011 and had 19 receptions as a rookie.
