Chadron State DL Eric Goll dies after practice

Chadron State defensive lineman Eric Goll died after Thursday’s practice. He was 20.

According to the school, Goll was transported to Chadron Community Hospital early Thursday afternoon after practice. He was pronounced dead around 12:30 p.m.

“Eric was one of the happiest people I’ve ever met,” Chadron State coach Jay Long said in a statement. “Our hearts are broken for Eric’s family. They have our condolences and our prayers.”

The cause of death is currently unknown, per the Omaha World-Herald. The school said it would cooperate with the police department regarding an investigation into Goll’s death.

A spokesperson for the team told the paper football team testing was from 10 a.m. to 11:30 or so Thursday morning.

Goll, a freshman, was a native of Haines City, Florida.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Goll’s family, teammates, and friends from the entire Chadron State College community,” CSC president Randy Rhine said.

Chadron State is a Division II school located in Chadron, Nebraska. It’s the school of San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead. While at Chadron State, Woodhead finished his career with 9.259 all-purpose yards. The only player to accumulate more is former Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook, who had 9,512 at Villanova.
