Castroneves penalized after taking pole at Iowa

Helio Castroneves won the pole for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 presented by DeKalb in a 50-lap heat on Saturday night in Newton, Iowa, but he will start Sunday's race in the 11th spot after a penalty for an unapproved engine change.

Castroneves was one of several drivers who were penalized for the engine switch and forced to move back 10 spots on the grid. Among them were Scott Dixon, who won the first heat race, and Takuma Sato, who finished second in the first heat.

Despite the penalty, Castroneves still received the nine bonus points as the top qualifier. It was his first pole in the series since April 2012 and 38th overall.

Will Power, Castroneves' teammate, finished second in qualifying and will move up on the starting grid along with Andretti Autosport teammates James Hinchcliffe and Marco Andretti, who were third and fourth. Andretti won the pole last week at Milwaukee.

Ed Carpenter will complete the first two rows for the start of the race on the .875-mile oval.
