Carmelo Anthony put up his 14th double-double this season, scoring 29 points and registering 16 rebounds, to help the New York Knicks pull out a close one against the Phoenix Suns, 98-96. New York (15-22) is now on a five-game winning streak.
Anthony went 9-24 from the field (3-6 on 3-pointers) and 8-9 from the free throw line. Andrea Bargnani contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds for New York as well. Goran Dragic had another strong game for Phoenix despite the loss, putting up 28 points on 9-22 shooting (4-8 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 6-6 from the free throw line. He also tallied 8 rebounds. Miles Plumlee chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Suns posted an eFG% of just 39.2%, including 23.3% from 3-point range. This year, they are 1-4 when they record marks below 45% and 30% in those respective categories. On the other hand, the Knicks are 6-1 when holding their opponents to such low percentages.
Phoenix (21-16) has now dropped their last three straight contests.
Coming up, the Knicks play the Charlotte Bobcats, who are 15-23 on the season. The Suns meet the Los Angeles Lakers, currently sitting at 14-23 this year. The Knicks are 1-1 versus Charlotte this season. The Suns have come away with a win the last two games against Los Angeles.
