Free-agent defenseman Matt Carle has found new home in Tampa.
The Tampa Bay Lightning signed Carle to a six-year deal Wednesday, general manager Steve Yzerman announced via the team's Twitter account. Multiple reports said Carle will earn an average of $5.5 million a season, for a total of $33.5 million.
Carle returns to the Lightning, who dealt him to the Philadelphia Flyers early in the 2008-09 season.
"I'm excited to be back. It was a hard decision. The organization is going in the right direction, and I'm happy to be a part of it," Carle said via the Lightning's Twitter account.
Carle, 27, has 32 goals and 170 assists for 202 points in 471 regular-season games with the San Jose Sharks, Lightning and Flyers, as well as five goals and 30 assists for 35 points in 84 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
