Canisius tops Elon 86-85 with 3-pointer at buzzer

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Billy Baron scored 21 points and made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Canisius to an 86-85 victory over Elon on Tuesday night in the North Consolation game of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Canisius (2-2) went on 9-0 run to end the game after trailing most of the second half. Chris Perez scored 17 points, and Jeremiah Williams made the key steal with 10 seconds remaining to set up Baron's game winner.

Elon (2-3) led 69-58 after an 18-2 run and led 85-77 with 2:43 to play. Sebastian Koch's free throws with 13:55 left in the game gave Elon a lead at 58-56 that they would hold until the final second.

Luke Eddy and Lucas Troutman each had 23 points for the Phoenix.

Canisius also won in the only other meeting between the two schools, a 69-53 victory eight months ago in the first round of the 2013 CIT.
