EUGENE, Ore. -- Justin Cobbs hit a jumper in the final second as California made it 11 straight wins over Oregon and moved within one game of the 23rd-ranked Ducks in the Pac-12 Conference standings with a 48-46 win on Thursday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon's Damyean Dotson missed a shot with 29 seconds left and Richard Solomon grabbed the rebound for Cal, which took a timeout with 25 seconds left. Cobbs dribbled until making a 16-footer with 0.7 seconds remaining for the winner.
The Bears rallied from a 26-21 halftime deficit to improve to 9-5 in the conference, one game back of the Ducks and Arizona, both 10-4.
Oregon led 26-21 at halftime before Allen Crabbe opened the second half with two baskets to pull the Bears to 28-25. Cobbs added a basket for Cal, and after a free throw by Oregon's E.J. Singler, the Bears tied the score 31-31 on a layup by Tyrone Wallace.
The score was tied again before Singler made a free throw and added a three-pointer to put the Ducks ahead 37-33 with 12:57 left to play.
Cal got free throws from Robert Thurman and Cobbs before Cobbs added a jumper to tie the score 37-37 with 10:23 left in the game.
Cal took its first lead in more than 25 minutes when Cobbs scored with 7:09 left, but Dotson answered with a jumper for Oregon to tie the score 39-39. Crabbe and Dotson exchanged baskets to keep the score tied 41-41.
Carlos Emory put the Ducks ahead with two free throws with 4:16 remaining and Arsalan Kazemi added a free throw with 3:30 left to push the lead to 44-41.
Thurman got an inside hoop to get Cal within 44-43 with 2:30 left in the game. After a layup by Emory, Thurman converted a three-point play to tie the score46-46 with 2:06 left.
Cobbs scored a game-high 14 points and Crabbe had 12. Emory scored 13 points and Kazemi added 11 points and 18 rebounds for Oregon.
Cal took an early 6-0 lead after a layup by Cobbs, but then Oregon answered with seven straight points.
Dotson scored the first three points for the Ducks before Emory hit a jumper. Kazemi added two free throws to put Oregon ahead 7-6.
Cal went back ahead on a jumper by David Kravish, but then Emory added a basket and a 3-pointer to put the Ducks ahead 12-8. Tony Woods followed with a dunk off an assist by Johnathan Loyd and Emory followed with a bucket to give Oregon a 16-8 lead with 10:17 left in the first half.
The Ducks stretched the lead to 22-11 on a dunk by Waverly Austin with 5:42 left in the half.
Emory had nine points in the first half and Kazemi grabbed 14 rebounds.
NOTES: Two people involved in controversial incidents last weekend were cleared to participate in the game. Woods was ejected from a win over Washington State when he elbowed Brock Motum in the head, but he did not receive an additional suspension. Cal coach Mike Montgomery was reprimanded by the school and conference after shoving Crabbe against USC, but he was not suspended. ... Oregon played its eighth straight game without starting point guard Dominic Artis, who remains out indefinitely with a foot injury. ... Oregon coach Dana Altman's next victory will be the 600th of his career. He won 123 games at two junior colleges, 15 in one season at Marshall, 68 in four years at Kansas State and 327 in 16 seasons at Creighton before arriving at Oregon, where he is 66-33.
