Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush did not practice Thursday but said he is optimistic about playing Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
Bush injured his left knee with 5:59 left in the second quarter last Sunday after he was hit by the helmet of Arizona Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson.
"I want to say I'm optimistic about playing," Bush said. "I always am. Today was a good day. The progress thus far since this last Sunday has been really good.
"I think it's a lot further than I expected and it feels a lot better than I thought it was going to feel. So I'm just happy where it is right now. Today was a very positive day and we'll see what happens tomorrow."
Bush's injury is not considered serious. When he was asked if it was a strain, he said, "I guess, yeah."
Bush said he plans to practice Friday but the team has not decided if he will play against the Redskins.
