CJ Massinburg and Buffalo reminded everyone on Friday night why they’re one of the better mid-major programs in the country.

Buffalo knocked off No. 13 West Virginia 99-94 in overtime on Friday in Morgantown, West Virginia, handing the Mountaineers their first loss in a home opener since 2003.

It wouldn’t have been possible, though, without a huge bucket from Massinburg in the final seconds.

With less than 17 seconds left in regulation, Massinburg caught an in-bounds pass at the top of the key and expertly drained a deep 3-pointer, tying the game.

The shot capped a 15-4 run to close out the game, too. The Bulls then made one last defensive stand on the next possession, sending the game into overtime.

Once in the extra period, Buffalo cruised to the win, outscoring the Mountaineers 15-10.

Massinburg dropped 43 points and had 14 rebounds in the win. He also made nine shots from behind the arc, shooting 60 percent from the 3-point line and 12-of-22 from the field.

The win for the Bulls follows their upset win in the NCAA Tournament last season where, as a No. 13-seed, they dominated No. 4 Arizona 89-68 in the first round.

If Friday night’s win is any indicator, it seems as if Buffalo is already on its way to making a similar postseason run this season.
