Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin was scheduled to have surgery on his shoulder Friday, according to coach Greg Schiano.
Martin is out for the season after tearing his labrum in his left shoulder while trying to make a catch Oct. 20 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Rookie Mike James replaced Martin and fractured an ankle Monday against the Miami Dolphins. He had surgery Thursday and is also done for the year.
Schiano said he is confident both running backs will be healthy by the start of next season. Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey are the Buccaneers' primary ball carriers now.
Also, defensive end Da'Quan Bowers is out for Sunday's game with concussion-like symptoms. He did not practice Friday.
