TAMPA, Fla. -- Buccaneers running back Mike James was carted off the field with a left ankle injury Monday night in the first quarter of Tampa Bay's game against the Miami Dolphins.
The team announced he would not return to the game.
On the opening drive of the game, James was hurt on a second-and-goal carry that gained 3 yards to the Miami 1. On the next play, quarterback Mike Glennon completed a 1-yard touchdown pass to offensive tackle Doug Penn. James gained 41 yards on five carries during the drive.
Running back Doug Martin was placed on injured reserve last week due to a shoulder injury, so Martin's injury left Tampa Bay thin in the backfield.
