Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Carl Nicks is battling another MRSA infection in his left foot, according to multiple reports.
Nicks was affected by a related infection during the summer.
Fox Sports first reported that an infectious disease specialist is working with Nicks to control the latest episode.
NFL.com reported that Nicks is expected to know more Friday, 48 hours after the initial cultures were taken. He is back on medication, but has not been ruled out from playing Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
MRSA is a type of staph infection that is resistant to antibiotics.
Nicks and kicker Lawrence Tynes had staph infections in August, forcing the Buccaneers to disinfect their locker room.
Tynes went on the non-football injury list and has been in disagreement with the team over the designation, arguing that it is football related. The team is paying his salary.
Nicks missed the first two games of the season. He is likely to miss more time.
