Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter said Wednesday starting running back Doug Martin suffered an injury setback last week and has no timetable for a return.
Martin has not played since a Week 2 loss against the Arizona Cardinals because of hamstring issues. He missed practice early this week, and it appears he will not suit up Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
Veteran Jacquizz Rodgers stepped up admirably in his place during a Week 5 win at Carolina. Rodgers carried the ball 30 times for 101 yards. He also caught five passes for 28 yards.
The Bucs have suffered a litany of injuries on offense this season. Third-down running back Charles Sims was placed on injured reserve earlier this month, and Tuesday the team placed wide receiver Vincent Jackson on IR with a season-ending knee injury.
If Martin is forced to miss multiple weeks because of the setback, Rodgers will be an enticing fantasy option in all formats with little competition behind him.
