Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said Saturday that defenseman Johnny Boychuk will be out three to seven days with a back sprain, according to NHL.com.
Boychuk left 4:28 into Thursday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens after being taken into the boards by left wing Max Pacioretty. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher. Pacioretty was given a two-minute penalty for boarding.
Boychuk was briefly hospitalized in Montreal before joining the Bruins for their flight back to Boston, where they host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.
Pacioretty said he was not trying to hurt Boychuk.
"I feel terrible," he said. "I've been in that situation before. As you can tell from my game right after that, it definitely rattled me a lot. I wish him nothing but the best."
Boychuk has a goal and five assists in 27 games this season. He is third on the team with an average ice time of 20:19 per game.
