Browns fire coach Rob Chudzinski
Cleveland pulled one of the most surprising moves of the season within hours of the season finale by firing first-year head coach Rob Chudzinski, according to a source close to Chudzinski and multiple reports.
ESPN reported the firing shortly after Cleveland finished the season with a loss against Pittsburgh. The team fell to 4-12, including seven consecutive losses to end the season. The Browns dealt with quarterback problems all season, starting Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell and Brian Hoyer at different points of the season.
However, there were rumors of dysfunction within the season. Still, firing Chudzinski, particularly after having previous coaches Pat Shurmur and Eric Mangini lasted only two years each, is unusual. It’s expected that General Manager Mike Lombardi will push to hire Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels or Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien, who was the offensive coordinator in New England prior to McDaniels’ second tenure.
Lombardi is extraordinarily close to New England coach Bill Belichick. The two worked together in Cleveland in the 1990s.
