LOWELL, Mass. (AP) -- Dockery Walker scored 17 points and Brown took down Massachusetts Lowell 87-76 on Tuesday night in the first meeting between the schools.
After trading baskets early, Brown (3-1) took a 13-10 lead over Massachusetts Lowell (0-4) midway through the first half on a 3-pointer from Norman Hobbie and never gave up the lead, holding a double-digit advantage for most of the game.
The Bears held a 57-32 advantage in rebounds, including 22-8 on the offensive boards. Rafael Maia led Brown with 14 rebounds, Leland King pulled down 12 and Walker grabbed nine.
Brown's bench outscored the River Hawks 47-9, led by Walker. King added 16 and Hobbie had 14.
Chad Holley and DJ Mlachnik each scored 18 to lead the River Hawks.
The contest marked the first home game for Massachusetts Lowell as a member of Division I and American East Conference team.
