Brendan Schaub Wants to Fight Mark Hunt, Hunt Says Why Not

UFC Heavyweight Brendan Schaub Calls It Quits, Steps Away from Fighting

UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub is looking for a fight and would like to face top ten-ranked Mark Hunt next.

Schaub’s manager, Lex McMahon of Alchemist Management, told UFC Tonight that his client wants a big fight in his next outing and would like to face Hunt in a main event or co-main event bout. Schaub (10-3) last fought at UFC 165 on Sept. 21, 2013, where he defeated Matt Mitrione by first-round submission.

The 30-year-old Schaub made his way to the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter reality series. He advanced to the finals of the tenth season, but was knocked out by Roy Nelson in the finale. He's currently riding a two-fight winning streak.

Hunt (9-8-1) is recovering from a broken hand suffered in his last fight against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC Fight Night 33 on Dec. 7. The two fought to a Majority Draw and earned Fight of the Night bonuses. The New Zealander expects to return to action in the summer timeframe.

Hunt, who is ranked eighth in the heavyweight division, said that he feels a fight with Schaub would be a step backwards, but wasn’t opposed to the match-up.

“If he wants to go to sleep first, sure, why not,” Hunt told UFC Tonight.

Schaub is currently ranked fourteenth.
