For the next two weekends, college coaches can evaluate prospects with their grassroots teams. It won't be a surprise if four-star shooting guard Ryan Boyce sees his already strong stock soar when he hits Nike's EYBL with Team Penny.
The junior recently moved into the Rivals150 at No. 110 overall and the 6-foot-4 scorer from Germantown (Tenn.) High is a true high flyer and knows his athletic ability gives him another dimension.
"Athleticism adds a lot," Boyce told Rivals.com. "When I can go past somebody off the dribble I feel like I can just take off on them and do whatever I want going to the rim.
"The thing I need to improve on is my dribbling, I could tighten that up a bit. Also, I could be better at guarding little guards and being able to stay in front of them. I need to use my height advantage and my athleticism."
Boyce told Rivals.com that the schools involved the most include Florida, Memphis, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tulsa, Villanova, Wake Forest and that LSU was on him strong before the coaching change.
However, it is Mike White and the Gators that are standing out at the moment.
"The one that I feel like a priority for right now is Florida," said Boyce. "They are very family oriented and we talk basically every week. Their run in the NCAA Tournament helped out tremendously because I was able to really look at the way they play. They passed the ball, they seemed to love playing with each other and they played hard for each other."
In addition to the Gators, Boyce mentioned Mississippi State and Ole Miss (where he's been unofficially) as schools that he would like to visit officially. But, he also wants to see what happens this spring and summer before setting anything in stone.
"I want to settle in after this summer," said Boyce. "I want to have a complete view of the layout. I may pick up some more interest as this summer progresses. So I want to order it out after the summer and then commit before my high school season starts.
