Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman will not play in Tuesday's All-Star Game because of a jammed left thumb.
Freeman injured the thumb Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds when he caught a throw from shortstop Andrelton Simmons that was in the path of Reds baserunner Chris Heisey. Freeman jammed his thumb while tagging Heisey.
Freeman stayed in the game and wore a soft splint on his left hand. He did not play Sunday's game.
Freeman beat out Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig in the final fan vote. He will make the trip to New York, however, for the All-Star Game.
A replacement has not yet been announced by National League manager Bruce Bochy.
