Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Josh Johnson will be out of action for at least the beginning of June with right triceps soreness.
Johnson, who has not pitched since April 21, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday. The move was backdated so that he is eligible to return on Monday. However, will be out longer than that, according to
The team hopes he can make a rehab start by May 21.
"He's started playing catch, feeling better," general manager Alex Anthopoulos said. "We're hopeful to get him into a rehab game starting on the 21st. That's not set in stone, but that's kind of the date that we've had."
The team does not need a fifth starter until May 21. At that point, it will either seek a trade or bring up a minor leaguer to take the spot until Johnson returns.
Johnson is 0-1 with a 6.86 ERA in four starts this year.
