Update: New Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell said the team will have an "open competition" at quarterback, but he sees reason to be optimistic about Gabbert's potential in the future, the Florida Times-Union reports. "He is still young," Caldwell said of Gabbert. "He's had two different offensive coordinators in his first two years. Get a coach in here and get some sustainability for him. I think it's important to see what he can do."
Recommendation: Caldwell goes on to mention that his draft evaluation of Gabbert indicated that the former Missouri QB would be a "long-term project when he came out." Gabbert is by no means assured a starting role with the team in 2013, but there's little doubt he'll be in teal next season with an opportunity to win the job. Caldwell said the Jags plan to bring four quarterbacks to camp after adding two more during the draft or free agency.
