Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel will have a minor knee operation and miss at least the rest of the preseason, the team announced Saturday.
Manuel had swelling in his left knee a day after his strong performance in Friday's preseason win over the Minnesota Vikings. He completed 10 of 12 passes for 92 yards with a touchdown.
First-year coach Doug Marrone said in a statement released by the team that Manuel will be re-evaluated at the end of the preseason.
"EJ Manuel had some swelling in his left knee this morning and was examined by our medical staff," Marrone said. "An MRI revealed that he will need to have a minor knee procedure and that has been scheduled."
Kevin Kolb will start the Bills' next preseason game against the host Washington Redskins on Aug. 24.
Manuel was taken No. 16 overall by the Bills in the NFL draft.
Also, wide receiver Kevin Elliott will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
