ORCHARD PARK, NY -- The Buffalo Bills added cornerback Johnny Adams to the team's 53-man roster from the practice squad on Tuesday, filling the void in a secondary that's already dealing with a pair of injuries.
Adams, an undrafted free agent this offseason, played four years at Michigan State where he started 39 of his 54 career games and intercepted 11 passes. He spent time with the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts in training camp before being cut by the Colts on Aug. 26. The Bills signed him to the practice squad on Sept. 2.
Cornerback Ron Brooks broke his foot in Sunday's season-opening loss to New England, and underwent surgery Tuesday. Fellow cornerback Stephon Gilmore is recovering from a broken hand, leaving the team with just four healthy cornerbacks prior to Adams' promotion.
Defensive tackle Jay Ross was released to clear the roster spot.
