Part of what makes Bill Belichick so great is that he’s never satisfied with being great. Always convinced the roof is about to fall in, he’s thus ready to react when it actually does.
The Patriots very nearly scored on their first series against Buffalo with a stunning 90-yard catch-and-run by Julian Edelman that ended on the Bills’ 1 … and then came all the way back on an offensive pass interference call. Soon afterward, the Bills marched downfield and scored on a 12-play, 65-yard drive.
That was enough. Belichick took his tablet — one of those newfangled technologies Bill hasn’t ever embraced — and knifed it straight into the ground.
Stupid tablet. Be less fragile.
The perfect kicker: cameras caught Belichick using a good old-fashioned notepad and golf pencil. Sometimes the old ways are the best ways.
The Bills won, 16-0.
