The winger joins HSV on a season long loan.
All summer long, we've been wondering whether or not Julian Green would go out on loan. We considered that he seemed destined for a loan to get more playing time, but Pep Guardiola decided that he needed until the end of the month to decided Green's future. Well, it appears as though a decision as been made.
Sky Sports reporter Sven Töllner is reporting that Bayern have agreed to loan Julian Green out to Hamburg for the entirety of the 2014-15 season. Bild, however, states that the two sides are still hammering out the loan fee that Hamburg will be paying. It does not appear that Bayern are including an option to buy.
The move is an excellent one for Green. Hamburg was awful last season and will be needing all of the help that they can get to help them avoid a repeat performance. While HSV did sell Hakan Çalhanoğlu to Bayer Leverkusen, they have made Pierre Lasogga's loan permanent and brought in Nicolai Müller for Mainz. They're also the front-runners to bring Lewis Holtby back to the Bundesliga from his purgatory at Tottenham. Green should receive the playing time to continue his development.
Green wasn't likely to see the field much with Arjen Robben, Thomas Müller, Franck Ribery, Mario Götze, and Xherdan Shaqiri all ahead of him on the depth chart. The move would also seem to cease any speculation that Shaqiri would be leaving the club this summer. It would be very silly for Bayern to loan out Green and sell Shaqiri in the same window.
