Baseball-World Series Game One - Play-by-play

BOSTON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Play by play of Wednesday's opening game in Major League Baseball's World Series between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. Pre-game: There's a full house at Fenway Park for the first game in the 109th World Series. This year's best-of-seven Fall Classic is looming as a thrilling showdown between two of America's most successful and loved teams who shared the best record in this year's regular season with 97 wins each. Nine-time Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige sang the National Anthem. This is what the rival managers said just before the game. John Farrell (Red Sox): "If guys aren't feeling some adrenaline, they might not be human. It's perfectly natural to have some adrenaline and emotion in situations like this." Mike Matheny (Cardinals): "As far as the expectation and the culture within the Cardinals, it's just a lot like what they have here in Boston. It's such a rich history." - - - Starting Lineups: St. Louis: Matt Carpenter (2B), Carlos Beltran (RF), Matt Holliday (LF), Allen Craig (DH), Yadier Molina (C), David Freese (3B), Matt Adams (1B), Shane Robinson (CF), Pete Kozma (SS), Adam Wainwright (P) Boston: Jacoby Ellsbury (CF), Shane Victorino (RF), Dustin Pedroia (2B), David Ortiz (DH), Mike Napoli (1B), Jonny Gomes (LF), Xander Bogaerts (3B), Stephen Drew (SS), David Ross (C), Jon Lester (P) - - (Reporting by Julian Linden; Editing by Frank Pingue)
