BASEBALL RECAP: Arizona 7, St. John's 4

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Sophomore right-hander Konner Wade pitched a six-hitter, leading Arizona to a 7-4 victory over St. John's in the clinching game of an NCAA Super Regional on Saturday.

The Wildcats advanced to their 16th College World Series, but only their second since 1986, the last of their three national titles.

Wade (9-3) struck out two and walked none, needing 98 pitches in the complete game. A double play helped him get out of potential trouble in the ninth, when he allowed one run.

Arizona staked Wade to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with the help of catcher's interference on a play in which Robert Refsnyder apparently had grounded out to end the inning with a runner on second. He was awarded first base instead, and the Wildcats followed with three consecutive singles off starter Sean Hagan (8-3).

The Wildcats (43-17) pushed the lead to 4-0 in the second on an RBI single by shortstop Alex Mejia.

Wade was perfect through three innings but errors by second baseman Trent Gilbert allowed St. John's to score single unearned runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the lead to 4-2. Arizona padded the advantage to 6-2 in the seventh on Bobby Brown's RBI double and a run-scoring single from Riley Moore.

St. John's, which was swept in the best-of-three Super Regional, finished the season at 40-23.
