On top of holding the NHL’s worst recording and getting shut out by the Dallas Stars, the Colorado Avalanche got some more bad news after the loss.

Defenseman Erik Johnson will miss the next 6-8 weeks after fracturing his fibula during Saturday night’s game, according to head coach Jared Bednar. The injury occurred when he was hit by a Tyler Seguin shot.

Despite their rough start, Johnson has been a bright spot through 23 games with 11 points while averaging 22 minutes a night. He’s also been a positive possession player.

Johnson joins captain Gabriel Landeskog (day-to-day) on the sidelines as the headache during Bednar’s rookie season behind the bench continue.
