Showdown: Upton vs. Pence

Justin Upton or Hunter Pence? Two Rotoworld writers take sides and debate

Here are the August Rankings. Players are ranked for the remainder of the season based on how I believe they’ll perform in 5x5 leagues. Players are also listed at the positions where they’re most valuable, so if you don’t see that third baseman you’re looking for, he’s probably listed at second or short.

Dropping off: Alfonso Soriano (No. 69), James Jones (No. 79), Shane Victorino (No. 86), David DeJesus (No. 117), Nate McLouth (No. 118), Bobby Abreu (No. 120)

  • With no real word yet on his status, I treated Andrew McCutchen as healthy for the purpose of these rankings, though I did list Travis Snider a bit higher than I would have otherwise. I’d rather see Andrew Lambo get an opportunity if McCutchen’s side injury forces him to the DL -- Lambo has hit .329/.398/.544 in 158 at-bats in Triple-A this year and was nearly as good last season -- but Snider probably would get most of the starts in left field.
