Army junior quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw has left the program just days after leading the first-team offense in a scrimmage on Saturday.

Bradshaw, who made seven starts last season, was in line to be the Black Knights’ starting quarterback.

According to the Times Herald-Record, Bradshaw’s decision came after West Point held its Affirmation Ceremony on Sunday, which coincides with the start of the academic year. During the ceremony, juniors take an oath to complete their final two seasons at West Point and commit to five years of active duty following graduation.

“He has some administrative stuff for something on campus,” Army coach Jeff Monken said after Tuesday’s practice. “There’s things, especially with the start of school, just stuff you can’t control.”

Bradshaw rushed for 468 yards and five touchdowns, and passed for 429 yards and five scores last season.

Sophomore Chris Carter, who started the final two games of 2015, should move into the starting role. However, he’s been sidelined since aggravating a hamstring injury during the first day of fall camp on Aug. 1. Monken said it could be at least another week before Carter is healthy enough to practice.

That leaves the Black Knights’ offense in the hands of four freshmen ‑ Malik McGue took first-team snaps, Joey Benden, Kelvin Hopkins and Korie Frausto.

Army opens the season at Temple on Sept. 2.
