TUCSON, Ariz. -- Halfback Ka'Deem Carey rushed for 206 yards and four touchdowns and quarterback B.J. Denker passed for two touchdowns, leading the Arizona Wildcats to an upset of No. 5 Oregon 42-16 to deprive the Ducks of a possible Pac-12 North title.
Carey, a junior, set school career records with 3,913 rushing yards and 49 touchdowns as the Wildcats (7-4, 4-4) broke a two-game losing streak. Carey has rushed for at least 100 yards in 14 straight games.
Oregon (9-2, 6-2) and No. 9 Stanford have two losses apiece in the Pac-12 North after the Cardinal beat California on Saturday. Stanford (9-2, 7-2) wins the title even if the Oregon beats Oregon State next week by virtue of its 26-20 victory over the Ducks on Nov. 7.
Carey scored on 6-, 1-, 9- and 1-yard runs, and his last touchdown gave the 20-point underdog Wildcats a 35-9 lead with 7:07 remaining in the third quarter.
Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns, and his 2-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Josh Huff closed the Ducks' deficit to 35-16 three plays in the fourth quarter.
Carey's fourth touchdown capped a 75-yard drive to put the game out reach with 8:59 remaining.
Denker passed for 178 yards and rushed for 102 more, throwing touchdown passes to wide receivers Nate Phillips and Terrence Miller as the Wildcats built a 28-9 halftime lead.
Mariota threw two interceptions in the game, including one on the first offensive play of the game to break a string of 343 consecutive passes without one. He had not thrown a pick in 285 attempts this season.
Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright intercepted Mariota's first pass after Ducks' wide receiver Bralon Addison could not handle a perfect pass and cornerback Shaquille Richardson made an acrobatic save and flipped the ball to Wright stepping out of bounds.
Carey scored on a 6-yard run nine plays later for a 7-0 lead.
Denker's 9-yard scoring pass to Phillips after an Oregon three-and-out made it 14-0 with 7:09 left in the first half.
Mariota's 6-yard touchdown run on the next drive was negated by a holding penalty before Matt Wogan made a 33-yard field goal to make it 14-3.
Denker's 5-yard scoring pass to Miller capped an 83-yard drive with 11:39 remaining in the second quarter for a 21-3 lead.
Mariota's 1-yard scoring pass to tight end Pharoah Brown on fourth down made it 21-9 before Arizona stretched its lead on Carey's second scoring run with 18 seconds left in the half. Carey's score came six plays after Oregon failed on a fourth-and-2 run from its 41.
NOTES: Sophomore QB Marcus Mariota passed for a touchdown in all 24 of his games at Oregon. ... Arizona became one of seven Pac-12 teams with at least seven victories this season.
