The Los Angeles Angels indicated on Tuesday that manager Mike Scioscia and general manager Jerry Dipoto will retain their jobs despite a second straight disappointing season.
The Angels announced in a press release that bench coach Rob Picciolo and hitting coach Jim Eppard were relieved of their duties.
The release states the announcement was made by Scioscia and Dipoto, essentially acknowledging that both will be back next season.
The Angels have spent a lot of money acquiring talent the past two seasons, adding Albert Pujols prior to the 2012 season and Josh Hamilton this season.
They also have a young star in Mike Trout and two highly paid pitchers in Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson.
Yet the Angels missed the playoffs each of the past two year. They finished with an 89-73 record in 2012 and were 78-84 this year.
There also were reports of tension between Dipoto and Scioscia this season.
