The Los Angeles Angels released relief pitcher Ryan Madson, the team announced Monday.
Madson, 32, missed the entire 2012 season following Tommy John surgery, then signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Angels last November.
He was expected to be the Angels' close this year, but he had several setbacks with his elbow, and he never pitched for the Angels this season.
He made one minor league rehab appearance back on May 13.
Madson was 4-2 with a 2.37 ERA and 32 saves for Philadelphia in 2011.
