The Los Angeles Angels declined a $15.54 million option to retain righty Dan Haren for 2013, making him an unrestricted free agent.
CBS Sports reported the move, which should make Haren a popular target. The Angels planned to commit significant salary to retain Zack Greinke.
Haren was made available via trade and a deal was reportedly near completion with the Chicago Cubs Friday.
The Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees and others are expected to be interested in Haren. He was 12-13 with a 4.33 ERA in 30 starts last season.
