The Los Angeles Angels obtained right-handed pitcher Ernesto Frieri from the San Diego Padres in a trade that brought minor league infielder Alexi Amarista and minor league right-handed pitcher Donn Roach to San Diego, the Angeles announced Thursday.
Frieri, 26, is 1-0 with a 2.31 earned run average in 11 appearances for the Padres this season. He has 18 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings.
"We are excited to bring Ernesto on board," said Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto. "He has proven to be a solid performer during his young career and we look forward to him being an effective part of our bullpen."
Amarista, 23, has a .273 average for Triple-A Salt Lake this season, and Roach, 22, is 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA this season at Class A Inland Empire.
