Baltimore: LHP Joe Saunders was acquired from Arizona for RH reliever Matt Lindstrom. The Virginia native will bolster the rotation for the final month as the club tries to reach the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. The Orioles also received cash from Arizona to pay a portion of Saunders' $6 million contract. Saunders will be a free agent at year's end. Baltimore also sent a player to be named later. ... RH reliever Jake Arrieta was recalled from Class AAA Norfolk (Va.) to take Lindstrom's roster spot. Arrieta went 3-4 with a 4.91 ERA in eight starts since his demotion to the minors. ... RHP Chris Tillman, due to pitch Sunday before the game was rained out, was pushed back to Tuesday. LHP Wei-Yen Chen will start Monday.
Boston: RH closer Alfredo Aceves was suspended for three games for conduct detrimental to the team after tearing his jersey off following a 4-3 victory over the Royals on Friday. Aceves was bypassed in the ninth that night in favor of RH reliever Andrew Bailey and stormed into manager Bobby Valentine's office following the game. Aceves blew a save for the seventh time this season Thursday. ... RH reliever Pedro Beato, claimed off waivers from the Mets in mid-August, was recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket (R.I.). OF Che-Hsuan Lin was optioned to Pawtucket after a one-day stay in the majors.
Chicago: DH Adam Dunn (38 home runs) is trying to become the first White Sox player to win a major league homer crown. Bill Melton (1971) and Dick Allen (1972, 1974) were AL winners. Dunn's two-homer performance Friday was the 33rd multi-homer game of his career. ... LF Dayan Viciedo (right shoulder soreness) was a late scratch Saturday and was out of the lineup Sunday. Jordan Danks took his place both days.
Cleveland: RH closer Chris Perez has 33 saves, which is the 10th-highest total in team history. The record is 46 saves by Jose Mesa (1995). Perez's next save will be his 94th with the Indians, which would tie him with Mike Jackson for fourth on the club's career list. ... C Lou Marson, who threw out 33 percent of attempted base-stealers in each of the last two seasons, has thrown out just 9 percent (five of 55) this year.
Detroit: 3B Miguel Cabrera (right ankle sprain) sat Sunday for the first time this season. Manager Jim Leyland hoped a game off combined with Monday's off day would have Cabrera ready to return Tuesday in Kansas City. Kansas City: LF Alex Gordon matched a career high with four RBI in the 10-9, 12-inning victory Saturday over the Red Sox. He had driven in four runs three other times. ... LH reliever Francisley Bueno picked up his first big-league victory Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings. Bueno became the 269th pitcher to log a victory for the Royals.
Los Angeles: 1B Albert Pujols (sore right calf) missed his fourth consecutive game Sunday. Manager Mike Scioscia said the team was targeting Tuesday for Pujols' return. ... OF Mike Trout was 0-for-9 Friday and Saturday in Detroit. It was only the third time since his promotion from Class AAA on April 27 that he had gone hitless in consecutive games. Trout went 1-for-4 Sunday (an infield single). He has not gone more than two consecutive games without a hit this season.
Minnesota: 1B Justin Morneau hit his 17th homer of the season Saturday, ending the team's seven-game homerless streak and passing Gary Gaetti for sixth place on the Twins' all-time list with 202 homers. ... RHP Kyle Gibson (Tommy John surgery) made his first start at Class AAA Rochester (N.Y.) on Saturday since elbow surgery last year. The Twins want Gibson to play in the Arizona Fall League and then compete for a rotation spot next year.
New York: 3B Alex Rodriguez (fracture left hand) began tee-and-toss drills over the weekend, the first time he has swung a bat with both hands since he was injured July 24 in Seattle. He was scheduled to have another X-ray in New York on Monday and he's hoping to be cleared for full batting practice. ... RHP David Phelps was to start Monday in place of RHP Ivan Nova (right rotator cuff inflammation). Phelps is 1-2 with a 2.92 ERA in five starts.
Oakland: 3B Brandon Inge (right shoulder separation) played nine innings at Class AAA Sacramento (West Sacramento, Calif.) on Saturday and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Inge was expected to come off the disabled list for Monday's game at Cleveland. ... 2B Jemile Weeks went 5-for-8 in his first two games with Sacramento since being demoted last week. Weeks was batting .220 with two homers and 20 RBI in 113 games with Oakland.
Seattle: CF Michael Saunders didn't play the past two days because of a mild groin injury incurred in an outfield collision with RF Eric Thames in the ninth inning Friday. Saunders hopes to be back in the lineup Monday in Minnesota. ... CF Franklin Gutierrez, who has missed eight weeks with a concussion, is getting closer to returning. He has hit .333 (8-for-24) over seven games on a rehab assignment with Class AAA Tacoma (Wash.) and has been free of the headaches that were a problem earlier. "He's close to heading our way," manager Eric Wedge said.
Tampa Bay: 1B Carlos Pena, his average dropping to .190 after an 0-for-3 game, was booed by some fans at Tropicana Field on Saturday. Pena said it was disappointing but that he won't let it bother him. To make room, RH reliever Tanner Scheppers was optioned to Class AAA Round Rock (Texas). Scheppers is expected to be recalled Sept. 4, when the minor league season ends. ... IF Michael Young is due to return from paternity leave Monday. Young missed the weekend after the birth of his third child Thursday evening. The Rangers likely will ship IF Luis Hernandez back to the minors to make room for Young.
Toronto: RF Jose Bautista (left wrist) was put back on the disabled list after aggravated the injury Saturday. He was 0-for-4 Friday in his first major league game since July 16. ... 1B Adam Lind (back) was called up from his minor league rehab assignment earlier than planned, although the game Sunday against Baltimore was postponed. 1B David Cooper (back) was put on the disabled list, and SS Adeiny Hechavarria, who had just been sent back to Class AAA Las Vegas on Saturday, was recalled.
