He said he anticipates getting regular at-bats after being acquired from Philadelphia for C Gabriel Lino, 19, and RHP Kyle Simon, 21. ... RH reliever Miguel Gonzalez was promoted from Class AAA Norfolk (Va.). Gonzalez, who allowed one run on four hits in 4 1/3 innings Sunday, will provide long relief after RH Tommy Hunter was optioned to Norfolk following a poor outing Saturday. ... OF Xavier Avery was optioned to Norfolk. He was called up Thursday and went 3-for-12 with one home run while making three consecutive starts before his demotion.
Boston: RHP Josh Beckett came off the disabled list and pitched six innings of two-run ball Saturday at Seattle. He had been out since June 12 due to right shoulder inflammation. OF Darnell McDonald, who hit .214 in 38 games, was designated for assignment. ... SS Mike Aviles was scratched from the lineup for the series finale at Seattle due to flu-like symptoms. Nick Punto took his place at shortstop, and CF Brent Lillibridge was bumped to the leadoff position.
Chicago: RHP Philip Humber allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings Sunday in the first of what might be two rehab starts for Class AAA Charlotte (Fort Mill, S.C). Humber has been out since June 17 due to a strained right elbow, and the White Sox are hoping to have him back for the start of the second half. ... LHP John Danks, sidelined since May 20 due to a left shoulder strain, was sent back to Chicago to undergo a diagnostic ultrasound. He is expected to resume workouts Tuesday if all goes well.
Cleveland: 3B Lonnie Chisenhall could miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his right forearm Saturday. The arm was broken when hit by a pitch Friday. Chisenhall could return to baseball activities in two to three months. IF Jason Donald was recalled from Class AAA Columbus (Ohio), where he was hitting .252 since his mid-May demotion. ... C Carlos Santana (back tightness) missed his fourth game in a row. Manager Manny Acta said he expects him to play Monday.
Detroit: RHP Justin Verlander is being re-slotted in the rotation. He won't start the first game after the All-Star break so he can face both the Indians and the White Sox later in the month. RHP Doug Fister will start the first game after the break, with RHP Max Scherzer working the second. ... RHP Rick Porcello pitched seven innings of four-hit, shutout ball Saturday for his third consecutive solid start. "He had a tremendous sinker," C Alex Avila said. "For the last couple of starts, it's been great."
Kansas City: 2B Chris Getz went 2-for-4 with two RBI on Sunday in his first rehab game for Class AAA Omaha (Papillion, Neb.). He has been on the disabled list since June 18 due to a left lower leg strain. ... Former groundskeeper George Toma has been voted into the Royals Hall of Fame. Induction ceremonies will be held Aug. 31 at Kauffman Stadium.
Los Angeles: The Angels went 17-9 in June, their sixth consecutive winning record in June and 11th in 13 seasons under manager Mike Scioscia. However, they lost a game in the standings to the Rangers, who went 19-9 in June with wins in 13 of their final 15 games in the month. ... RH reliever Jordan Walden struggled in two appearances during the Toronto series. He allowed one run on two hits Friday, then a three-run homer Blue Jays CF Colby Rasmus on Sunday.
Minnesota: RHP Cole De Vries was called up to make a start in Saturday's doubleheader, and six innings of one-run ball didn't prevent his demotion back to Class AAA Rochester (N.Y.). "It's really frustrating," he said, "but coming here, I basically knew that (would happen)." ... LHP Brian Duensing hopes an adjustment to his delivery will keep him in the rotation. He made 30 mostly effective appearances as a reliever before going 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in two starts. "I have to find a way to miss down when I miss," he said.
New York: DH Raul Ibanez chipped a tooth and cut his lip when he banged into the dugout fence while trying to elude a foul ball in the ninth. He was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital after the game and was expected to join the team in Tampa Bay on Monday. ... The Yankees acquired RH reliever Chad Qualls (1-1, 4.60 ERA) from the Phillies for cash and a player to be named. Qualls had been designated for assignment last week. Minor league IF Matt Antonelli was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster, and Qualls will join the big-league bullpen Monday, manager Joe Girardi said.
Oakland: RHP Bartolo Colon is scheduled to come off the disabled list Tuesday to start against the Red Sox. He threw twice on the side and didn't feel the effects of a strained right side muscle. He'll take the rotation spot of RHP Tyson Ross, who was optioned to Class AAA Sacramento (West Sacramento, Calif.) when 1B Chris Carter was recalled Friday. ... RF Josh Reddick was the first A's hitter with 18 homers before July 1 since Nick Swisher had 19 through June 30, 2006. Eight of Reddick's homers had come with two strikes.
Seattle: OF Michael Saunders has missed the past three games with a nasty case of flu-like symptoms. He tried to get ready in the late innings Saturday but couldn't. He was feeling worse Sunday than he felt Saturday, manager Eric Wedge said. ... RHP Erasmo Ramirez went on the disabled list after coming out of Saturday's start in the third inning with elbow pain. An MRI indicated Ramirez had a mild flexor bundle strain. RH reliever Josh Kinney was promoted from Class AAA Tacoma (Wash.), where he was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 27 games.
Tampa Bay: RHP Jeremy Hellickson's return from the disabled list Saturday didn't last long, as he was forced from the game in the third inning after being struck on the right shin by a Prince Fielder line drive. Hellickson is expected to make his next start Thursday at Cleveland. ... LHP David Price threw a bullpen session before the series finale against Detroit, and he reported no trouble with his back. He had been forced to leave Friday's game due to back tightness, but he is on track to make his Wednesday start against the Yankees.
Texas: RHP Neftali Feliz has been long-tossing, and he hopes to begin throwing off a mound this week. He has been out since May 19 due to a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. ... RH reliever Mark Lowe became the sixth member of the opening-day pitching staff to land on the disabled list at the same time. He is out due to a strained ribcage muscle. RH reliever Yoshinori Tateyama was recalled from Class AAA Round Rock (Texas), where he made four scoreless appearances after his June 16 demotion.
Toronto: RHP Henderson Alvarez (elbow stiffness) showed he was fine Saturday when he held the Angels to one run and seven hits over seven innings in an 11-2 victory. "It didn't bother me, it felt good today," he said of his elbow. ... CF Colby Rasmus had been in a slump before hitting a three-run homer in the ninth inning Sunday. He had three hits and two RBI in his previous 25 at-bats.
