LORMAN, Miss. (AP) -- Marquis Vance scored 15 points, hitting a perfect 8 for 8 from the free-throw line, to lead Alcorn State to a 64-51 win over Jackson State on Saturday night.
Alcorn State (4-11, 1-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) fueled its victory with a big first half, hitting 50 percent from the field while holding Jackson State to just 6-for-21 shooting and took a 32-16 lead into the break. It was too big of a margin for the Tigers (5-10, 1-2) to erase despite outscoring the Braves 35-32 in the second half.
Octavius Brown and LeAntwan Luckett contributed 14 points apiece for Alcorn State, while Twann Oakley had 10.
Jackson State trailed the entire game but narrowed the gap to 14 in the second half with a 7-0 run sparked by a Julysses Nobles layup.
Derell Taylor led the Tigers with nine points.
