NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Jeremy Crutcher scored 19 points, well above his 12-point average, as Alabama A&M narrowly beat its rival Tennessee State 66-65 on Tuesday night.
M.J. Rhett pulled Tennessee State within two points at 65-63 with 1:13 left and the Tigers had the ball with 5.5 seconds remaining, trailing by one, but Patrick Miller's shot bounced off the rim.
Crutcher made a buzzer-beater to end the first half and Alabama A&M led 32-28 at halftime. Its lead moved to 10 as the Bulldogs went on a 7-1 run to start the second.
Alabama A&M (2-4) got 12 apiece from Demarquelle Tabb and Tyler Davis. The Bulldogs made 8 of 18 3-pointers and their defense held Tennessee State to 37.5 percent shooting.
Miller finished with 17 points, Rhett added 11 points and 14 rebounds for Tennessee State (0-9). The Tigers controlled the glass, 46-31.
Tennessee State leads the all-time series 16-4.
