Al Jefferson put up 30 points and notched 16 rebounds to help the Charlotte Bobcats beat the Orlando Magic, 111-101. The Bobcats had no trouble knocking down shots in this one, going 39-74 (52.7%) from the field, including 7-15 (46.7%) from three-point range. Charlotte (17-24) has won just three of its last 10 games.
Jefferson finished 13-17 from the field, in a strong performance. Kemba Walker also chipped in for Charlotte, finishing with 19 points and 10 assists. Despite the loss, Arron Afflalo scored 24 points for Orlando on 7-14 shooting (4-7 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 6-8 from the free throw line. Jameer Nelson added 18 points and 8 assists, Glen Davis finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Victor Oladipo put up 11 points and 10 assists.
As expected, the edge on the defensive glass went to the Bobcats (84.2% DR%), who took advantage of the Magic 28th-ranked offensive rebounding (21.5% OR% on the season). Meanwhile, the Bobcats rank third in the NBA at collecting defensive rebounds with a DR% of 76.8%. Along with their eFG% of 57.4%, the Bobcats connected at a rate of 46.7% from 3-point range. On the season, they are undefeated (2-0) when they record marks above 55% and 40% in those respective categories. Conversely, the Magic are winless (0-8) when allowing their opponents to reach those percentages.
Orlando (10-30) has now lost 10 in a row.
Coming up, the Bobcats square off with the Miami Heat, who are 28-11 on the season. The Magic meet the Boston Celtics, currently sitting at 14-27 this year. The Bobcats came up short against Miami each of the last two times they've met. The Magic have lost their last two meetings with Boston.
