Akwa United's Ikpe close to returning from injury

The midfielder was instrumental in the Promise Keepers' victory against the Owena Whales and he insists he consistently give his all in order to always be relevant in Abdu Maikaba's setup

Winger Michael Ikpe could join Akwa United camp in Calabar this weekend after a three-week injury spell.

The former Papillo FC youngster suffered a knee injury during the first phase of the Promise Keepers' pre-season training in Uyo.

"I sustained a shock to my knee three weeks back. Hopefully am sure of linking up with the team on Sunday," Ikpe told Goal.

"For me I don't like getting injured but there was nothing I could have done. That's behind me for now. I can't wait to continue the pre season under the watchful eyes of Coach Abdu Maikaba.

"I was in action in the Federation Cup match between Papillo FC and Rivers United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

"Rivers won 4-3 and I scored twice. Then Akwa United decided to come for me after the game. And I agreed to move to the club.

"Last season I scored just one goal but this time around my major objective is to improve and help the team compete with the top sides."
