MILWAUKEE -- The Chicago Wolves got a point but saw their five-game winning streak snapped as they fell 3-2 in the shootout to the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The Wolves received goals from right winger Cody Beach and center Pat Cannone to build a two-goal lead, but saw it dissolve in the second half of the game and could only capitalize once in six shootout rounds.
After a scoreless first period, the two teams combined for three goals and 25 shots in the middle frame.
Beach broke open scoring for the Wolves (9-6-0-2) when he picked up a deflection in front of the net and put it top shelf at 3:20 to beat Milwaukee goaltender Magnus Hellberg.
Chicago kept the pressure on and were rewarded with a 2-0 lead on Cannone's marker at 5:54. The Wolves took advantage of an Admirals' mistake to get the puck to Cannone, who beat Hellberg from the front of the net.
Milwaukee (9-4-3-1) got within one at 12:08 of the second period. Left winger Kevin Henderson found himself in alone against goaltender Jake Allen on a breakaway and slid the puck through Allen's legs.
Simon Moser knotted the score at 2-2 early in the final period. An odd bounce off the boards put Allen off-balance and allowed Moser to put a quick shot behind him.
Mathieu Tousignant and Austin Watson tallied in the shootout for Milwaukee, while Ty Rattie scored the lone goal for Chicago.
Allen (8-3-2) made 29 saves on the night. The netminder stopped four of six shootout attempts, but was bested in the extra session by Hellberg (3-7-1), who stopped five, along with 29 saves in regulation.
